more specifically the heroes and fantastic bastards of my art world.
Egon Schiele, Frida Kahlo, Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud, Picasso. Standing in front of their works and reading books of their lives I feel an affinity with them, relating to the millions and millions of hours alone in the studio, the crushing anguish and rushing joy of the process. I’m thinking that the pain and the joy must be the same for everybody, with or without the fame and greatness.
KFA Turbinehallen 2018 I’m showing a series of portraits. Paintings in which I’ve fought to capture the nerve of a wonderful life in a single expression. The process where a small stroke of paint to the eye or mouth can destroy every ounce of intensity (crushing anguish) or bring the eyes on the canvas to suddenly see you for the first time (body rush).
